About Tim Evans: Veteran, Inventor, Business Coach

Tim Evans started his career working with his dad at their own windshield replacement shop in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After years of frustration watching barely damaged windshields go to landfills, his natural tendency to invent got the better of him.

Tim decided to create a way to repair them.

This began a year’s long journey investigating existing options. None of them were any good. He could only find chip repair and a few false claims of good crack repair. Existing tools and methods were inefficient, taking 30 minutes or more to repair a single chip!

This wasn’t good enough for Tim.

He set to work to learn the physics of glass damage. This led to Tim inventing his own true long-crack repair tools and far superior chip repair tools, superior products (resins, curing, etc.), and the most efficient and effective repair methods in the industry.

And so the Crack Eraser stand-alone business model was born. Tim still operates this repair business today in Colorado and sells the technology and business knowledge for others to start and operate successful full-service windshield repair businesses all over the world.

A History of Windshield Repair

1904 | The first cars with windshields were built.

Windshield glass was flat and untempered causing serious injury when it would break in large shards.

1919 | Henry Ford started using laminated glass for all automobiles

This made breakage less frequent and safer.

1938 | Carleton Ellis developed polyvinyl butyral (PVB)

This was a chemical that was stronger, clearer, and blocked UV rays better than previous resins or cellulose.

1971 | The 3M Company introduced the Scotch Weld system

This was the first nationally successful system which used ultrasound vibrations and resin injection to repair windshield damage.

mid-1970s | The first “vacuum” windshield repair system was developed

The windshield repair industry continues to grow.

1990s | A film coating was introduced to reduce infrared ray penetration.

2003 | Tim Evans invents a dual-resin system that allows for repair of long cracks.

Even today, many companies who push windshield replacement over repair claim that long cracks are impossible to fix.

2005 | The Crack Eraser opportunity is born in Monument, CO..

This is your opportunity to join a group of skilled auto repair heroes.

Crack Eraser Technology in the News

Windshield repair made easier with 3D printing

The 3D Printing Store (3DPS) used Photocentric’s LC Magna to manufacture a custom drill collet, making windshield repair easier. Photocentric partner 3DPS was approached by Tim Evans and his company Crack Eraser – which helps other entrepreneurs start their own auto glass repair businesses – to develop a part for its repair kit system.
